Here is some genealogical information for one of the Afro-Métis project participants, Plums Croxen:  Plums Croxen genealogy and connection with George Elliott Clarke.

Plums’s father, Charles Raymond Croxen, was a musician. He was born in 1923 in Newport Station, Nova Scotia. Plums’s mother, Joyce is also a talented musician, and was the main influence and motivation for Plums to dedicate his life to music.

Plums’s great-grandmother on his father’s side, Emma Gibson, was Cherokee. She was born on September 11, 1872 in Gibson Woods, Nova Scotia. There is Mi’qmaw heritage on Plums’s mother’s side of the family.
